Shiromani Akali Dal leader and Ferozpur MP Sher Singh Ghubaya on Monday had resigned from the party citing SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal’s ‘wrong policies’ for his decision to quit the party.
However, the SAD later issued a statement saying Ghubaya was expelled for his “anti-party activities.”
There were speculations that he might join the Congress because his son Davinder Singh Ghubaya is a Congress MLA from Fazilka.
So, Mr Ghubaya joined the Congress today in the presence of party president Rahul Gandhi, Punjab Congress chief Sunil Kumar Jakhar and AICC in-charge of Punjab Congress affairs Asha Kumari.
“Congress President Rahul Gandhi welcomes Ferozepur MP Shri Sher Singh Ghubaya to the Congress party. We wish him all the best,” the Congress party said in its statement Twitter.
Ghubaya had won from Ferozepur in 2009 and 2014 on the SAD ticket. In 2014, he had defeated Punjab Congress
president and MP Sunil Jakhar by 31,420 votes.
