Election Commission of India has decided that the poll campaign videos put in the YouTube will now be considered as election expenses.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Gopala Krishna Dwivedi said,
“YouTube would be considered as election expenditure and stated that candidates will have to take pre-certification from the EC, if they want to use YouTube for their campaign.”
Mr Dwivedi conducted a meeting of Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) and explained about the norms and rules during elections.
“The EC has been concentrating on candidates’ expenditures, paid articles and social media campaigns and directed the MCMC nodal officers to continuously monitor the campaigns without fail,” Dwivedi said in a statement.
He also directed the district collectors concerned to begin MCMC monitoring centres in 13 districts of AP and also directed MCMC to register a complaint with the police against paid articles.
