Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Amethi on March 3 where he will launch the project to manufacture modernised version of AK-47 rifles in Korwa area of Amethi.
The project, in collaboration with Russia, will be undertaken at the ordnance factory in Korwa that was established in 2010.
It’s interesting to know that this will be Modi’s first visit to the parliamentary constituency of Congress president Rahul Gandhi after he became the Prime Minister.
It appears that the saffron party is all out to make its presence stronger in the Congress bastion of Amethi. Union Minister Smriti Irani, who unsuccessfully contested the 2014 Lok Sabha election from Amethi against Rahul Gandhi, has been regularly visiting the constituency, announcing projects and schemes for the region.
Meanwhile, in his visit, the Prime Minister will also announce various development projects in Amethi, which is an effort by the ruling party to make Gandhi’s task tough.
However, the decision by the SP-BSP alliance not to field a candidate from Amethi comes as a relief for the Congress president.
